Homeopathic medicines, how much, when, how, how often

Homeopathy is available in various forms, granules, doses, drops for the most common forms, and in various dilutions.

Dosages in homeopathy

 Dosage: how much to take?

Homeopathy can be prescribed to everyone, infants, children, pregnant women, animals… The dilutions and dosages are the same, regardless of weight and age, with the exception of oral drops.

  • Granules: 3 to 5 per dose.
  • Drops: the dosage depends on the manufacturer, in fact the diameter of the droppers is not standard, and the size of the drops can vary from simple to double. Consult your pharmacist.
With regard to children, the dosage of one drop per year of age and per dose is commonly accepted.
  • The doses: 1 full dose per dose.

Dosage: how often to take homeopathic medicines?

 In acute cases:

You must start as soon as possible, and take the homeopathic medicine or medicines at a steady pace until the symptoms improve.

Some examples :

  • In case of insect bite with sharp pain and oedema, APIS MELLIFICA in 5 CH, 3 granules every 10 minutes, and stop as soon as everything calms down.
  • I wake up with a very red throat and a fever of 38° 5. While waiting for my appointment with the doctor, I take 3 granules of BELLADONNA in 5 CH and 3 granules of FERRUM PHOSPHORICUM 7 CH together every ¼ hour , and as my symptoms improve, I will space out the intakes: every 30 minutes, then every hour…

 In chronic cases

The homeopathic medicine or medicines are generally taken at the rate of 3 to 5 granules 2 to 3 times a day, before meals.

As for homeopathic doses, it is of course necessary to respect the recommendations of the prescriber; they are usually taken once or twice a week.

 When to stop?

It is imperative to space out and then stop taking homeopathic medicines as soon as the symptoms improve, otherwise there is a risk of reactivating the disease .

 Homeopathy, which dilution to choose?

The dilution defines both the concentration of the product and the number of potencies performed between each dilution.

We distinguish :

  • Very low dilutions: from 1 DH to 5 DH
  • Low dilutions: 3; 4; 5 CH but also 6 DH
  • Average dilutions: 7 or 9 CH and for decimals, beyond 6 DH
  • High dilutions: for centesimals: 12, 15, 18, 30 CH, and for decimals, we can consider that beyond 12 DH, the effects are similar to centesimal dilutions: a drug in 15 DH is therapeutically equivalent to the same drug in 15 CH.
  • Very high dilutions: above 30 CH

The rule is as follows : the more the set of symptoms corresponds to the homeopathic medicine, the more a high dilution is used .

 In acute illnesses,

  • If the symptoms observed corresponding to the chosen remedy are few, low dilutions, 4 or 5 CH, are used.
  • If the symptoms are numerous, if the table is complete, higher dilutions are used, 7 to 15 CH.

Moreover, the more acute the case, the closer the sockets are .

An example with NUX VOMICA

  • I will take it in 4 or 5 CH (low dilution), for clear colds, morning sneezes, stomach pains, sluggish digestion, hemorrhoids and constipation. 3 pellets three times a day.
  • In 7 to 9 CH (average dilution) if sleep disorders are added: difficulty falling asleep, nocturnal awakenings, general hypersensitivity linked to stress, 5 granules morning and evening.
  • In 15 CH (high dilution) if in addition I am irritable, angry, that I seek stimulants, coffee, tobacco, even alcohol. 5 pellets in the morning.
  • I have severe lumbago, I can't turn over in bed, the pain makes me irritable, I will take NUX VOMICA 9 CH, 3 pellets every ¼ hour while waiting for the doctor.

 For chronic diseases:

Low dilutions are generally used to gently treat an organ. Once the organism has been prepared, medium or even high dilutions can be used for background treatment. The latter belongs to the homeopathic doctor who alone can judge which medicine to choose.

The granules are taken by 3, and the more the set of symptoms corresponds to the drug, the more a high dilution is used.
